Summer CSA - Week 7

Dear CSAers

The beautiful weather continues! With a chance of showers for Wednesday CSA pick up, if it is raining (or too hot!) and you do not wish to head out for the PYO please come back another day this week for your harvest. The hot weather can get to you quickly so even for a short harvest you may want to remember a water bottle, hat and sunglasses to make your picking more enjoyable. 

Don't forget your reusable bag and returning with your pint container each week! This week you will be weighing out your salad mix so if you wish to bring your own container or reusable produce bags to reduce plastic use.

Need Kale ideas? It has been a great year for our kale so our CSA has gotten a lot of it. Kale pesto is a great option and can be combined with other herbs such as basil and parsley. 

Farm store finds: Round squash, like the Rond de Nice are PERFECT for stuffing: lop off the top and use a spoon to dig out the insides. Saute this flesh with other vegetables, lots of onions and rice and then fill and bake the shells to create a stunning vegetarian dish. For our beef and lamb lovers, think about recreating your favorite stuffed cabbage recipe to showcase this seasonal container. 

We also this week have Shiitake mushrooms for Saugatuck Farm in Ridgefield! Locally grown on  logs, these mushrooms have a fantastic flavor and are worth trying for even those who 'don't like mushrooms'.
