Each year it seems a few crops thrive and exceed expectations. This year our brassicas (kale, cabbage and collards) are really loving the mild weather and rain. While many of you have been asking how we feel about all this rain-- the answer is it is finally getting to us! But it seems that the sun is finally coming out and will give us some dry weather we need. The rain has been a blessing in some ways and has given us amazing heads of lettuce and happy brassicas.
In this week 4 summer share:
- Lettuce (still giant heads! a choice of a green or red)
- Cabbage, Carflex a cute pointed head cabbage
- Collard Greens
- Peas (Sugar Snap) Pick your own option.
- Hakurei Turnips
- PYO Strawberries or Red Currants
If you haven’t tried currants, now is the time! Red currant berries are “superfruits” as they have naturally high antioxidant levels. Perfectly suited for a jelly, jam, syrup or baked good, their slight acidity and low sugar level also lends them to savory applications. Cook them down into a piquant sauce with rosemary and red wine to pair with your grilled Hickories Lamb or use them in a savory, mustardy Cumberland Sauce to serve with cold meats.
Super Share Flowers: If you are a Super Share CSA member, your flower pick-up begins this Friday, June 28th with pick up every two weeks thereafter for a total of 9 pickups. These arrangements will be separate from the monthly flower subscribers.
See you at the farm!
