May at the Farm

As May is coming to an end, our greenhouses have overflowed with seedlings and yet we are still furiously transplanting and seeding to stay on track. We are open every day and this will include Memorial Day weekend.

Seedlings for sale at the farm: Outside the farm store is a selection of seedlings available for purchase. Our most popular tomato, Sungolds are still in abundance if you are looking to add some to your garden. A tip when planting your tomatoes: be sure to plant them very deep!  The whole stem has to ability to grow roots, so by planting them deep it will create  a tomato with a strong root system. Also it is a good idea to fertilize your tomato with fish emulsion or kelp when transplanting to give the soil a little boost and thereby seedling  a good head start.

Summer CSA shares: We have a limited amount of summer CSA shares left. I have been walking the fields, eyeing the strawberries that are green, measuring up our pea plants, and adoring our blossoming blueberry bushes -- knowing that soon they will all be feeding our CSA families.  Our summer share is slated to start the beginning of June and will end in September. Our CSA members are the heart of the farm and we look forward to having our extended family grow this year! A note from a special farm boy about the CSA “ This is for the parents, there is a lot of fun stuff for your kids to do here at the farm, there are hills and grass and even sticks to play with.” That’s right folks, there are sticks here too – free! Enjoy what our farm has to offer: a community of food lovers and families who find joy in eating fresh food and pausing each week, however brief or extended their visit, to connect to the land.

Flowers by the month CSA. This breaks the style of our previous flower CSA and creates convince for those who might be away for certain months of the summer. Of course, you can still select to receive them every month too! Laura’s eye for design means that each arrangement is both breathtaking in addition to being pollinator friendly.

This summer if you are in Westport, you can find us at the Westport Farmers Market! We will be there this Thursday and will be returning frequently as a rotating vendor. The Westport Farmers Market is our favorite place to make time for on Thursdays, loaded with amazing fresh local fruits and vegetables from other fellow farmers as well as bread, seafood, pastries, dog food anything you can imagine. Lori Cochran, the market master, has done an amazing job bringing everyone together under one tent – literally and figuratively.
