Pickup for your first Autumn share begins this afternoon 2pm-6pm.
We look forward to welcoming you and sharing in what is shaping up to be a beautiful and bountiful season. Starting a stockpile, no matter how big or small, is a biological imperative for mammals in this climate - and so we should not underestimate how centering and reassuring it is to prepare ourselves for winter by freezing, pickling, canning, or drying. Each week as you collect your share you might think about taking one element of it for safe-keeping: hang some of the herbs to dry them, blanch the greens and roll them up in a ziplock bag for the freezer, grill the peppers and pack them with garlic and olive oil and refrigerate. I guarantee that digging into your CSA storage will bring a smile midwinter. We currently have been working on preserving beans, spraying compost tea and beneficial nematodes to give boots to our fall crops and working on taking out of summer crops.
*Reminder to bring a bag to collect your share and a smaller produce bag, or bin for bagging loose arugula this week*
