Week 2

Dear  CSAers,

Circumstances found me spending two days away from the farm this week, out on Block Island cleaning out the garage of an old fisherman.  I had to chuckle as I found myself picking up buckets of mismatched bolts and nuts: exact replicas of the buckets of mismatched hardware I have accumulated over our years here. It was two days of celebrating thrift on the one hand and blushing with the recognition of what that kind of thrift will do to a garage over a lifetime. The Hickories is short on barn space: we feel that acutely this time of year. We need space to store food, space to store tools, room to grow and teach new farmers.  Each winter I spend trying to rearrange the spaces to better accommodate our growing farm operation.  I will be tackling that challenge yet again this winter. 

The weather is turning nasty this afternoon, so if you can not make it to the farm this afternoon and want us to hold your share for tomorrow morning, please just send us a message and we will do so.
